In the occasion 2011 Taipei International Co-workshops
alessiostudio, on invitation of Chaoyang University of Technology, has selected 10 italian students to work as a team in Taiwan with 12 local students.
Workshop philosopy was to involve academics from different countries to address the issue of reuse of a large urban area in Taipei. Other teams university were involved:
– National Taipei University of Technology,
– Chinese Culture University
– Waseda University, Tokyo
– University of Sydney
– Korea University
The site (about 140,000 mq) was occupied since 1930 by the repair factory of Taiwan Railways train (very similar to the Great Repair factory in Turin). This function will be relocated by releasing an area of vital importance in downtown Taipei. The approach devised by the tutor alessiostudio Lorena Alessio and Marco Brizio with tutors from Taichung university, was to divide the design team into two groups: one in architecture, and one in landscaping, composed of students from both nations. Architecture team started to design focusing on optimizing space, proposing a solution in which different functions can have the same portions of the building at different times. Instead landscaping team has adopted a parametric approach by developing a script for the interactive modeling of multi-functional areas of coverage that would respond in an almost immediate
input to the graphics they had experienced.
